Fulbright-Hays Yoruba Group Project Abroad visit Office of international Programmes University of Ibadan.

On June 24, 2025, the Fulbright-Hays Yoruba Group Project Abroad, coordinated by Professor Olufunke Ogunya and involving participants from various U.S. institutions such as Howard University, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, Goddard College, and Princeton University, paid a visit to the Office of International Programmes at the University of Ibadan and they were received by the Director Prof Olufunmilayo I. Fawole and members of staff of OIP..

The Fulbright-Hays Intensive Advanced Yoruba Group Project Abroad is a summer immersion programme hosted by the Yoruba Language Centre at the University of Ibadan. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Fulbright-Hays Fellowships, the programme provides American college and university students with a valuable opportunity to study Yoruba in an authentic environment among native speakers in Nigeria.

Beyond language learning, the programme offers students a distinctive cultural experience by enabling them to live and study outside a traditional classroom setting. Its overarching objectives are to enhance participants' fluency in Yoruba language and culture, support their academic pursuits, strengthen their career readiness, and deepen their understanding of Nigeria within a broader global context. These experiences are intended to enrich the students' personal and professional lives upon their return to the United States.
