UI regards Internationalization as the integration of international and intercultural perspectives into its principal functions of teaching, research, management and service, so as to ensure that its staff and students are always able to operate in a rapidly changing national and global scene (UI Internationalization Strategic Plan 2008-2013).

The rationales for internationalization at UI include:

Ø To enlarge UI’s global footprint and strengthen her identity and brand in the global academic scene.

Ø To advance the quality of UI’s core functions of teaching, learning, research and community service in relation to international standards

Ø To mainstream UI’s own academic achievements and perspectives into the global academic agenda

Ø To enhance international and intercultural understanding and competencies of students and staff through Internationalization initiatives

Ø To strengthen the resources available for Internationalization

Ø To build strategic alliances and linkages

Ø To expand opportunities for staff and students to be active players in the international academic arena.
