Visit of Prof. Pius Oben and Dr Beneedicta Oben from University of Buea, Cameroon, to University of Ibadan

Prof. Pius Oben and Dr Benedicta Oben from University of Buea (UB), Cameroon, paid a visit to the Office of International Programmes (OIP), University of Ibadan (UI) on 13 December 2017. They were accompanied by the Dean, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, Prof. B. O. Omitoyin, Prof. Tijani (HoD, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management) and Mr Elijah. UI has an active MoU with UB based on which both institutions have several collaborative activities going on. During their stay in UI, the team had follow-up discussions with colleagues in our Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources and familiarised themselves with recent developments in UI to see how they can enhance their technical competence back in their home University.

Professor Oben acknowledged the assistance his University has been receiving from UI with respect to staff development, research collaboration and the resolution of problems of feed in Aquaculture. He specifically thanked UI for how it has been mentoring the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, UB, Cameroon. Prof. Oben noted that his collaboration with UI enabled him to win the UNESCO KALINGA Prize for the Popularisation of Science in Cameroon at the Institutional and National Levels. In addition, he expressed the desire of his University to further collaborate with colleagues in our Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management in research in Marine Bioscience and Marine Biotoxins.

Both the Dean of the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources and Director, OIP, expressed great joy at the positive impact UI is having on the UB and affirmed the willingness of UI to further partner with the UB in the areas of research, staff and student exchange and joint programmes. Both parties agreed to develop a research proposal in Marine Bioscience and Biotoxins.
