Representatives from University Of Ghana (UG) Visit The OIP, University Of Ibadan
The University of Ibadan (UI) hosted Mr. Albert A. Essuman and Mr.Yaw Dankuwa from the University of Ghana, Legon (UG) on Friday, 10 February, 2017. They were received by the Director of the Office of International Programmes, Professor Oluwatoyin Odeku upon arrival in UI.
The representatives visited the University of Ibadan to discuss collaboration possibilities between the UG and UI. According to Mr. Dankuwa in his presentation, there are areas where University of Ghana and University of Ibadan could work together collaboratively. He identified key areas such as research in climate change, malaria research, poverty alleviation and policy research. He also identified some other areas in Medicine, Law and public policy. The collaboration will involve faculty exchange, staff and students exchange as well as training.
In her own contribution, the Director of the Office of International Programmes, Professor Oluwatoyin Odeku highlighted some other areas of possible collaborations like strategic studies and peace and conflicts studies. On joint degree, she added that UI has existing collaborations on joint degrees with foreign Universities. She suggested that it would be beneficial if the two universities could explore this area as well as staff exchange. According to her, these forms of collaboration do not allow for brain drain.
While responding to questions on accommodation for international students, Mr. Dankuwa stated that UG has a 2500 capacity hostel for the international students. He said that the hostel is within the campus to make it easy for the students to attend classes and also to ensure their safety. With respect to security, Mr. Essuman submitted that every student in UG has a biometric card without which the students gain an entrance to the school main gate and the hostel. He stated that this is to ensure the security of lives and property at the University of Ghana.
