International student from Utrecht University, Netherlands visits the University of Ibadan

The Office of International Programmes (OIP), University of Ibadan (UI) received Mr. Kaustubh Thapa, a Scholar from Utrecht University, Netherlands on Wednesday 14 August, 2019. The scholar whose area of specialization is Circular Economy was accompanied by Dr.Olawale Olayide from the Centre of Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan (CESDEV). They were received by the Director, Office of International Programmes (OIP) - Professor Edith O. Ajaiyeoba; Mr. Paul Oghinan (OIP) and Mrs. Patricia Afolabi (OIP).

Mr. Kaustubh Thapa in his comments stated that the purpose of his visit was to undergo a one month scoping studies on his research topic “Circular Economy”. He intends to study how Nigerians make use of second hand electronics, the adverse effect on the population, the sanctions given to people who use such products, and also to visit electronic dumping sites. He will also be in Lagos and Abuja to know how they engage in environmental control. He further said he would be in Nigeria next year to continue his study for about Four months.

Dr. Olawale Olayide from the Centre of Sustainable Development (CESDEV) in his remarks said that the scholar has three supervisors and one of them will be coming to UI from Netherlands this weekend to attend a conference in the Centre for Sustainable Development (CESDEV).

The Director, Office of International Programmes (OIP); Professor Edith O. Ajaiyeoba in  her welcome address, advised Mr. Kaustubh Thapa to endeavor to apply for his health insurance at the University when he arrives next year, since he will be staying for a longer period which he duly noted. She finally wished him a fruitful stay in the University of Ibadan.
